An early morning wreck in Sumter County Thursday claimed the life of a truck driver.
The Alabama Highway Patrol said the driver of an 18-wheeler collided with a vehicle being towed about 5:10 a.m. and was killed.
Two people in the lead vehicle towing the car were not hurt.
"He must have been doing about 80 at least," said Cheryl Smith of Houston, Texas. "And I thought he was going to move over and he didn't. He hit the car that I was towing and then flew over and slid all the way down the road. He was blocking the whole road."
The name of the fatality was not immediately available. A passenger in the 18-wheeler was injured and transported to the hospital.
