Some local colleges are getting some new courses. Meridian Community College president Dr. Scott Elliott said Thursday that a college course to teach truck driving would be added to the offerings at MCC.

In addition, a possible new course to train those interested in casino management was disclosed by Dr. Nick Nichols, Dean of MSU-Meridian.

"When we become a distribution center, we're going to need a lot of truck drivers and MCC is going to be on the cutting edge in terms of training those people," said Elliott. "And that's going to help our economy."

"We're certainly not going to teach anybody how to gamble, how to deal cards, but what we will teach folks to do is how to run that kind of facility and we are indeed looking at that," Nichols said.

The announcements came during a taping of WTOK's On the Record program. It will air Sunday at 5:30 p.m. on WTOK-TV.
