Court Denies Blanton Request

A judge Friday refused to order a new murder trial for former Ku Klux Klansman, Thomas Blanton, Jr.

Blanton was convicted in the 1963 church bombing that killed four black girls in Birmingham.

The judge denied the request in a two-sentence order.

Blanton's attorney claimed that prosecutors used all of their jury strikes to eliminate whites from the panel and that 10 were used to eliminate white men.

The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals will be asked next to throw out the conviction.
