The appointment of Charles Pickering to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans created a vacancy on Mississippi's federal bench.
Sen. Trent Lott revealed Wednesday that Mississippi's senators are now conferring about a replacement for Pickering in Hattiesburg.
"Sen. Cochran and I did discuss that briefly just yesterday and we will be meeting here soon to develop a suggestion or a list of names for the White House to consider and for the president to consider," said Lott.
Lott indicated the federal appointment would probably go to a judge currently on the state bench in south Mississippi.
