Dickens: "Keeping it Tight"

Philadelphia's new school superintendent is optimistic about the new year, even though all districts in Mississippi have concerns about the reliability of future state funding. Britt Dickens says the district is pinching pennies in an effort to preserve teaching positions.

"They're the ones that will get the learning done so we're trying to support them the best we can," said Dickens. "Sometimes, maybe not filling some positions through attrition and just trimming corners in maintenance and not building like we would like to."

The Philadelphia district has 1,300 students in grades
