A plan to demolish abandoned and dilapidated houses in Meridian and Lauderdale County has been approved, according to the president of the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors.
"We have in hand a letter from the attorney general's office signing off on the inter-local agreement between the city of Meridian and Lauderdale County for the demolition of the abandoned properties in town," said District 4 supervisor Joe Norwood. "As it stands, we are scheduled to demolish the first house in the community on the morning of Feb. 23."
Twenty-eight houses are scheduled for demolition in this first phase of the program.
