The Mississippi House of Representatives has passed a bill to stop state agencies from hiring new workers or buying equipment until June 30, that is when the state's current budget year ends.
House leaders say the freeze on hiring and purchases could save the state between $8 and $14 million.
The bill still faces approval by the state Senate.
