A routine traffic stop on Interstate-20 east bound around 1 p.m. Tuesday netted $25,000 worth of marijuana.
Meridian K-9 Officer Chris Read made the stop. The east Mississippi Drug Task Force, which serves Lauderdale and Clarke counties, is called in whenever illegal drugs are discovered or suspected.
"A consent to search was given by the driver,” said Maj. Steve Spears, commander of the EMDTF. "Approximately 25 pounds of marijuana was recovered."
Spears said Juan Alivia was jailed on trafficking charges and was held without bond. The stop happened at mile marker 151 east bound in Meridian.
