Each year, the city of Meridian puts money in its budget for the removal of hazardous tree. It may seem a frivolous budget item, but officials say it is actually a safety issue.
The trees include those that are either too large or dangerous to stay were they are.
"We take calls and go out and check each tree," said senior planner Kevin Locke with the city of Meridian, "and evaluate the hazard there. Sometimes we have to remove them."
Sixty-four hazardous trees will be removed this year at a $40,000 price tag.
