Alliance Laird Hospital in Union, Mississippi, placed the Emergency Room under quarantine Thursday after a woman was admitted complaining of a burning mouth and itchy eyes after she opened a piece of mail. Upon her arrival the hospital quit admitting patients.
"We placed her under quarantine and took all the precautions, especially after September 11th, we have precautions we take. She is stable and no one else experienced any symptoms. We notified the appropriate authorities," said Thomas Welsh, chief of staff for Laird Hospital.
The envelope the woman received was sent to Jackson for testing. The test came back negative for any dangerous substance.
The hospital is now re-opened and all attending agencies have closed the investigation and testing.
