Alabama Gov. Bob Riley could not persuade the state legislature to recess its regular session Thursday for a special session.
Riley wants lawmakers to focus separately on his government accountability proposals, but the governor said a special session is always an option later.
If the Alabama legislature doesn't address the governor's proposals in its regular session, riley said he may call a special session when the regular session ends in May.
