Contestants in the Mississippi State University Bulldog Stampede Rodeo
are college students who rope for their college teams.

Participants say the goal is to make it to the national rodeo competition.

Keystone is a key part of that endeavor for Ben Mayworth of Troy State University.

"Keystone is eighteen years old and he's pretty awesome. He's my best friend," said Mayworth, who has done well in the contest.

"I roped today and I did really well, first in the calf roping," said Mayworth. "There is still some time to go, so I hope I remain on top."

The competition kicked off Thursday. Rob Seal, director of the Agri-Center said organizers are pleased with the facility.

"They are really bragging on the facility and how we have taken care of everything," Seal said.

Seal said he always wants the Agri-Center to get more of these events, which he said are great for the local economy and fun for spectators.

"The program is basically everything you would see at a full-fledged rodeo or professional rodeo," said Seal. "Everything from bull racing to saddle racing, calf racing, bull racing and team roping."

Mayworth said he loves traveling around the country for these events, but is even more pleased to he helping out a good cause. All the proceeds will benefit the St Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The competition continues Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7.00 each.
