Meridian Community College honored one of its own Friday for the work he's done at the school.

MCC named Dr. Todd Brand its Humanities Professor of the Year during the annual ceremony at Casteel Gallery.

Brand is the chair of the communications and fine arts department at the college.

After he was presented with the award, Brand gave a talk about one of his favorite subjects, religion and the electronic mass media.

"I went to a small Baptist college, Mississippi College, and was a communications major," said Brand. "So I've always followed the link between organized religion and the media, and got a chance to talk about that today. And it was just fantastic."

The award is sponsored by the Mississippi Humanities Council. As part of the honor, Brand was given a $500 honorarium.
