When Jerome Hearn's family members found out that he had been murdered, they were heartbroken.

"I'm just very heartbroken that someone would be so evil to do something like this," said Christina Henderson, Jerome's sister. "And I feel like this was a senseless crime and it didn't have to happen."

Jerome was the only son out of three children. His two sisters said they have great memories of him to hold onto.

"I will remember him as a very soft spoken person who had a heart as big as this world," said Henderson. "He was good as gold. He would do anything for anybody. And I just don't understand why anyone would do anything to hurt him."

"He was so generous. Whenever I needed something, I would always go to him," said Jerome's sister, Dana Chatman. "He would always keep my kids for me when I was late for school."

Hearn's family said it won't be easy dealing with this loss. They plan on turning to each other for the support they need throughout this hard time.

"We're helping each other," said Phyllis Ann Chatman, Jerome's mother. "We're coming together as a family to help each other and to bond, because I brought my children up to love each other."

For this family, the pain is very real. They said they just don't understand why someone would commit such a horrible act.

"It's like what my daughter said," said Phyllis. "It was just senseless the way my son died. And I hope for all of the other young people out there this will open their eyes."

Hearn was a son, an uncle, a brother, and a father. He had a little boy who was just eleven years old.
