A school library that was damaged by vandalism in early 2009 is back to full speed.

The library at Northwest Middle School has new books and student computers.

Nearly all the books that were there had smoke-damage from a fire that was set by vandals in January, when it was Northwest Junior High. Replacing what was lost took some time.

"You can't just say send me 6,000 books. You kind of want to look through the books and make sure you're getting something suitable for this age," said Nancy Johnson, Northwest library media specialist. "So I spent a lot of time going through picking out the books for the children and then we got them shipped in. And it took I'd say, the order was turned in in August and they were shipped here in September and the children started checking out in October."

A couple thousand more books are on order, and there will be some more furniture added, along with a professional section for teachers.
