SBC Concerned About Slow Growth

Jimmy Draper, president of the Southern Baptists' Lifeway Christian Resources, said that could mean that the denomination has "lost its focus.''

Draper said he worries that in "an increasingly secularized society,'' Southern Baptists "have lost a sense of urgency in reaching people for Christ.''

The denomination's membership grew by less than one percent in 2003, bringing the total to 16.3 million people.

However, the SBC reported positive news as well. Tithes, offerings and special gifts rose about five percent.
