The East Mississippi Business Development Corporation discussed the $22 million water, sewer and interchange project for the new industrial park complex at its board meeting Thursday.
President Wade Jones defended the EMBDC against critics who say the group isn't doing enough to bring new industry and jobs to East Mississippi.
"It's really a two pronged approach," said Jones. "We have to have a community that's ready for economic development. We have to have land that's ready and we've talked many times about the extensive water and sewer and development of the interchange. That takes the cooperation of the city, the country, our state officials and congressional officials. So we work diligently toward making those things happen."
Jones added the group is turning in a proposal Friday for a prospective business deal.
