It has been almost a month since Christopher Mabry, 19, a Marine from Lauderdale County, was killed in the line of duty during an ambush in Ramadi.
Since that time the effort to create a memorial has been in the works. It became reality Tuesday.
Lauderdale County supervisors voted unanimously to honor Mabry. The effort was started by Willie Schanrock, who said he was moved by the young man's life.
Friends, family, local officials and classmates of the Clarkdale High School graduate gathered in much the same fashion as they did just weeks ago during the soldier's funeral to once again pay their respects.
A marker was placed as a permanent fixture on the front lawn of the courthouse alongside a tree dedicated to Mabry's memory.
