Northeast Middle School is joining a list of schools banning clothing that displays confederate emblems or Malcolm X.

The Lauderdale County district has left the decision to principals of each school for the past couple of years.

Northeast Middle made the move after racial fighting last school year.

"We need the help of parents and students to help us keep a good environment during the school day," said David Little, superintendent of Lauderdale County Schools, in backing the decision of Northeast Middle School principal Richard Kelly.

Meridian Public Schools have a similar policy.
