The town of Macon, Miss., has called off a planned parade and other celebrations at the request of the family of former hostage, Tommy Hamill.
Macon Mayor Dorothy Baker Hines said Thursday in a statement that the city has been informed by the Hamill family that they prefer not to have any type of celebration for Hamill's homecoming.
Hamill and his wife, Kellie, may leave Germany as early as Friday.
Phyllis Hamill said her son had made it clear he did not want any celebration that held him up as a hero.
