Lott Gets Heat About Support for Immigration Bill
Jackson, Miss.
A group of protesters is outraged Sen. Trent Lott is supporting the controversial immigration bill before Congress. The bill strengthens the Mexican border, but provides a path to citizenship for illegal aliens already here.

If we give illegal immigrants amesty, most will not register. they will not pay a fine, go back to mexico for years, and then apply again! and the illegals with records will hide and keep braking the law if law enforcement will not work together nothing will work.

I agree with Lott that the bill isn't perfect, but I disagree with him that it' better than nothing. Two big wrongs do not a very small right make. This bill is just another step along the road to national and state (MS) bankruptcy. As a republican, I voted for him and thought he was a good man, but now, I must say, when he runs for any office again, I will vote against him.

I laugh at business which believes it'll get cheap labor. La Raza's next move is to unionize all the illegals and drive the wages past the minimum wage. Background checks for 12 million illegal aliens within 24 hours? What a joke. Say bye bye to your social security, medicaid and medicare and we feed and nurture all of latin and south amerika!

I used to respect Senator Lott because he could be counted on to be a REAL LEADER and uphold conservative values and principles. No longer. Senator Kennedy has essentially been in charge of immigration policy in the country since 1965 and look at the absolute mess we now have. All of the arguments currently being used by the proponents were used in 1986. Nothing changed. Any Senator that honestly believes that this bill is finally THE answer is out of their mind. We need a change in leadership in the Republican Party. We need leaders that will stand for the rule of law and stand for the sovereignty of our Country. The working men and women of this once great country are being sold down the river by the very politicians we have supported. It's a betrayal and an outrage.

I live in California and totally oppose this bill and any amnesty for any illegal immigrant. This country will change forever if we let this happen to us.

We do not need to locate the illegals and deport everyone. That is a straw man argument. Just make it nearly impossible for them to use their fake documents and many will go home.

Anyone married to a U.S. citizen is also a U.S. citizen, by virtue of that, so those persons and their children would not be deported. Children born in the U.S., even to people here illegally, I believe are also U.S. citizens. Illegal immigration is indeed a problem and doesn't need to be forgiven.

The senator is realistic at least. Immigration is a problem, not to mention the 12 million illegals here. I think it's a good start. Deportation is not an alternative at this point. Too many logistical concerns, not to mention the marriages to legal citizens, children of the marriages who are US Citizens, and other legalities that make deportation unrealistic. Keep trying Senator Lott!

Our senator from Mississippi has a LOT of gall and arrogance if he thinks we are going to take this immigration bill lying down. If we can't find these illegal aliens, how in God's name are we going to fight terrorism in this country? President Bush and Sen. Lott are talking out of both sides of their mouths when they say they are serious about fighting terrorism and will NOT secure our border first. The recent airline passenger with TB who was able to get back in this country should scare everyone about the threats we face from people trying to come in this country illegally!

Senator Lott has prospered while growing irresponsible to the very Constitution he swore to uphold: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God." He has become part of an over bloated, inefficient government that has no respect for its own CONSTITUTION let alone the citizens its supposed to represent. Lott and his imperial Senate colleagues would rather listen to illegals, the Mexican Government and special interest groups, then to the American people. As for the Republicans, Lott is just part of the Ted Kennedy wing of the Republican Party. I pray that Fred Thompson runs. Then you'll see the feckless, pussillanimous Republican Senators who support this Amnesty Bill duck for political cover.

politicians like lott do not want reform because it gives the republicans cheap labor. we need a new direction for this country before it is too late. we need thompson! illegal aliens are just that illegal, send them out of the usa, this is our home and our childrens. it's time for us to protect our country and if lott and the rest do not represent us then they need to voted out of office.

Any politician that says it would be impossible to locate and deport illegal aliens should not be in office. It is pure impotence and lack of political will. Illegal aliens are everywhere and easily identifiable in hospitals, schools and by their access to social programs. Lets not mention that there are some that are working with false papers. No terrorist will come out of the shadows by granting amnesty. Wake up. We need a leader like Jeff Sessions or Fred Thompson that start out with a leadership message such as "illegal immigration is wrong" and "it will be punished". Let Trent Lott throw up his hands while we look for real leaders.

For those who have not read the details of this bill, I strongly suggest you take some time and do so. therwise in another 10 or 15 years your children and grand children will be asking what the heck were you doing when this legislation was passed and why we did not do something about it. More sinister details about this imigration bill are here for those interested. I read this and said GOD SAVE OUR COUNTRY. If all of us don’t wake up and do something, these politicians will turn this great land into a third world dumpster pretty soon. http://lonestartimes.com/2007/05/31/the-immigration-bill-the-closer-you-look-the-scarier-it-gets/
