Responding to a call of a shooting on Wright-Spur Road Friday afternoon, the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department arrived to find a fully involved mobile home fire.
After the fire department got there, they found a body laying face down in the living room.
The body recovered from the fire was that of a male, which was sent to Jackson over the weekend to determine the cause of death.
"The cause of death is from smoke inhalation," said Lauderdale County coroner Clayton Cobler. "There was also one gunshot wound under the chin but that was not fatal."
"We have no indicators that there is foul play, but we're not ruling out anything at this point in time," said Mike Mitchell, chief deputy for Lauderdale County.
Investigators say additional evidence discovered at the crime scene may help to shed more light on the matter.
"That will be taken to the Crime Lab in Jackson to be analyzed," Mitchell said.
The victim's body was burned beyond recognition and his name has not yet been released, pending a positive identification through dental records.
