Meridian Police Officer Charged with Crime

A Meridian police officer has been charged with a crime. Officer Sammie Taylor, 41, was arrested Tuesday on two counts of felony false pretense.

Officials say Taylor has been with the police department for four years. he is currently suspended without pay.

"These two events are not related to Mr. Taylor's employment with the city," said MPD spokesman Lt. Dean Harper. "No government agency brought the charges. he has been suspended without pay until further notice."

Harper would not elaborate on what circumstances prompted the charges.

Taylor's bond was set at $25,000 on each charge.
