It's three days before Christmas, and a Newton County family is without its home.

The home of Carl Adkins of Decatur was destroyed by fire Monday. It was a total loss. There was no immediate word on what caused it.

Adkins has two children, ages five and seven. A fund has been set up for him and his family at Great Southern National Bank.

I would like to thank the Decatur and Beulah Fire Departments for responding so quickly to the home of Carl Adkins 12-21-09 for a fire that devastated the home. We are also thankful for Mr. Oliver that entered the house while it was burning before the Fire Dept arrived just to check for any people or animals that may have been in the house. We are continuing to sort through the ash and debris, but are trying to find the good in all of this tragedy. Thank you for the prayers, clothing, gifts and financial support given directly to us as well as the fund at Great Southern National Bank. From all of us, we thank you and hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!
