The public memorial for officers Harley Chisholm, III, Carlos Owen, and Charles Robert Bennett was held at the Alabama state fairgrounds arena.
Among the dignitaries in attendance was Gov. Bob Riley, who also spoke during the memorial.
"It is said, 'No greater love is there than to lay down your life for your friends'. Then what type of love is it that you would lay down your life for someone you don't know?" said Gov. Riley at the service.
The three officers were shot to death in west Birmingham on June 15 while trying to serve a warrant at a residence. Two men are charged with capital murder in their deaths.
