Health officials say increased travel during the summer months is indirectly aggravating blood shortages in Mississippi.
Accidents and other emergencies don't "stop during the summer, but sometimes people don't donate as often," said Wendy Copeland, communications and public relations manager of Mississippi Blood Services.
About three percent of Mississippi residents supply blood for the entire state, and even regular donors sometimes forget to donate blood during the summer, making it more difficult to get donations.
