Slices of cold watermelon came at a good time, considering the heat.
This is the first project of the fiscal year for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 79 and its ladies auxiliary.
"Primarily our services are to our veterans, but we also want to be of service in our community," said auxiliary president Sylvia Compton. "And this is one of the programs that the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary participate in and to help those that may need some help and give them a little boost and let them know we love them and appreciate them."
VFW Commander James Slayton said another fun part of the day is giving out dollar bills to MIDD workers just for taking a guess at the weight of the melons.
