It’s is that time of year when young ladies from all over the state of Mississippi gather in Meridian for the state Junior Miss Competition.
The first stop for the young ladies was the Quality Inn on Sunday. That's where registration and orientation phase of the weeklong event took place.
For the first time in six years the 41 contestants will taking part in what is the 48th edition of the state’s program. From here on out the girls will not see much of their families as they are assigned to one of 19 host families.
"Mississippi is probably the third largest program in the country. We were just awarded a four star program and w are just excited about that," said Hampton Thomas, Junior Miss State Chairman.
This year $27,000 in scholarship money will be given out among the girls.
