House Speaker Billy McCoy is back at home. State Rep. Bill Miles said McCoy returned home late last week after being hospitalized in Jackson with an inflammation of the digestive system seven weeks ago.
Miles said McCoy is still undergoing intense therapy, but is showing dramatic improvement. He added McCoy is in good spirits and eating well.
The 61-year-old lawmaker was admitted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center on June 5. He was transferred to Methodist Rehabilitation Center after undergoing surgery.
Miles said McCoy has some restriction in the use of his left hand. It's not clear whether McCoy expects to participate in budget hearings in the fall. He is not expected to appear at the Neshoba County Fair, thought he was initially scheduled to speak.
