A simple assault charge filed by a citizen against a law enforcement officer was dismissed Thursday in Meridian Municipal Court.
The complaintant, attorney Dwayne Watts, failed to appear in court.
Watts had alleged that Steve Spears, the commander of the East Mississippi Drug Task Force, pushed him in a confrontation outside the task force office in May.
The dismissal clears Spears of the charge.
