Anxious students and parents filled the hallways and classrooms of Crestwood Elementary School Sunday afternoon. They were there for the schools Jump Start Open House.
Jump Start Sunday gives both the student and parent a chance to meet their teachers before the beginning of the school year.
Teachers say this relieves anxiety for both the parent and the child.
The open house also gave the students a chance to bring their school supplies to school early and pick up some free bookmarks and binders, along with information packets for the school year.
"It has proven to be a big success," said fourth grade teacher, Katrina Craven. "It puts the child at ease and it just really helps on the first day."
"It's very important because I want to know how my kids react to their teachers," said Tabatha Darden, a parent.
