Next week, secondary education professor Louis Smith will travel to the Ukraine. He and two other delegates from Alabama will travel to the area as part of a program with the Center for Civic Education. The mission of the trip is to share strategies with Ukrainian instructors on teaching democracy and citizenship.
"I'm also hoping to bring some of the Ukrainian educators here in October and they'll be working with some of our classes if they can come to our Social Studies classes and some of our Social Studies method classes to give them a taste of a culture that's very different from ours," said Smith.
Smith says he hopes to find out within the next two weeks, if the Ukrainian educators will be able to travel to UWA. Meanwhile, Smith leaves for the Ukraine on Sept. 4 and will return on Sept. 15.
