A Lauderdale County jury has convicted a 35-year-old man in the statutory rape of a six-year-old girl.
Cottrell Carter, Jr. was convicted of both statutory rape and sexual battery from an incident that allegedly occurred in February of 2003.
Carter had admitted to the incident in a written statement, but he claimed it wasn't his fault. In the written statement, he alleged the six-year-old girl came on to him.
The jury convicted him in under an hour.
