Benefit Concert Set for Feb. 9

A Gospel concert Feb. 9 at the Temple Theatre will benefit restoration of the historic Council of federated Organizations, or COFO, building in Meridian.

During the 1960s the office served as a hub for four prominent civil rights organizations of the time.

Three civil rights workers who were murdered in Neshoba County in 1964 worked out of that office.

"These young men lost their lives fighting for us to now have the right to freely go out and vote," said concert promoter Terrence Davis. "I think it's not only necessary to have, but the lessons that can be taught through this interpretive center/museum is going to be very beneficial to our future."

The state of Mississippi has already approved more than $200,000 for the project. Supporters need to raise $55,000 more.

The featured guest will be Gospel recording artist, Kathy Taylor, perhaps best known for her hit song, 'Oh, How Precious'. Meridian's own, Patrice Moncell, will also be featured, along with other guests.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. They're now on sell at the Temple Theatre box office.
