Books Donated to Harris Elementary

The current Leadership Lauderdale class is encouraging children to read.

One of the group's community projects was collecting books for children.

Members delivered 245 books Thursday to donate to Harris Elementary School in Meridian.

Students were able to look them all over and choose one to take home.

"Well, we know that reading is such a big part of education. And we know that there are so many students that don't have their own book in their home," said Cynthia Harris of Leadership Lauderdale. "And that was our purpose in this, was to help every child that we could to have their own book at home and to have someone to be able to help them to read that book."

Leadership Lauderdale teaches people about making a difference in their communities. Officials saw this project as one that would continue to reap benefits.
