Care Lodge Domestic Violence Shelter in Meridian is hosting a candlelight vigil at City Hall on Monday evening at 5:30.
The event goes hand in hand with National Crime Victims Rights' Week. When participants arrive on Monday evening, they will receive a purple ribbon to clip to their clothing. The ribbon is a symbol used to honor victims and survivors of domestic violence.
Last year in Meridian and Lauderdale County, figures show there were 245 arrests for domestic violence. Those arrests were misdemeanors. There were also 35 arrests for aggravated domestic violence. Those arrests were felonies.
Monday night's vigil not only honors domestic violence victims, but first responders as well.
