Clarkdale High Burglary Arrest

Lauderdale County, Miss. Ever since computers and instruments were taken from Clarkdale High School last week, Lauderdale County Sheriff's Investigators have taken several people into custody for questioning. Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says they've had to keep most of the evidence and information quiet in order to help solve the case.

"I know from the outside it may look like, 'Why can't you tell us?' Part of that is those individuals are still out in the community, they haven't been charged yet, and investigators are using their information to validate evidence we've recovered, as well as to build a case that can be prosecuted successfully."

They are, however, now able to announce the arrest of 21 year old former Clarkdale student David Wesley Evans. Evans is now in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility on 4 counts of Commercial Burglary, but is being held without bond because of his prior criminal history.

"This individual is currently out on bond in Newton County, Neshoba County, and Lauderdale County."

Calhoun says they believe since Evans knew the school, he may have known which rooms to target. The good news is that they have been able to find some of the stolen property.

"We have recovered a large amount of the items that were taken, not all of it, so we're still in hopes of recovering that and we're working with other officials to do that.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department is also working with other agencies to locate other persons of interest, and new arrests will be announced as they are made.
