Lauderdale County, Mississippi At least two local sheriffs say a restraining order against the state's open carry law has no impact in their counties.
Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie says after meeting with his legal advisors, he has concluded that a ruling by a Hinds County Judge does not impact the county. The sheriff says people in this county are allowed to carry weapons without a permit, as long as they are not concealed. The sheriff has banned weapons inside the Lauderdale County Courthouse, Courthouse Annex, and the Lauderdale County Detention Facility.
"We believe that a Hinds County Circuit Judge cannot dictate to Lauderdale County and overrule legislation passed by the Mississippi legislature," Sheriff Sollie said.
Clarke County Sheriff Todd Kemp says the open carry law is also in effect in his county.
