Meridian, Miss. Mississippi Cong. Gregg Harper spent a large portion of the day in Meridian.
Harper was the guest speaker at the Rotary Club where he talked about the budget deal that's now on the way to the president.
Harper said he's not happy with one aspect of it that did not provide for cost-of-living adjustments for military retirees. However, he says it does help national defense and the current military.
"Who were in danger of a lot of cuts that were going to take place through another round of sequestration on our national defense," said Harper. "And so now with a budget you can actually do new weapons programs that you couldn't do under a continuing resolution. It will prevent another shutdown which was really not a very effective thing for us."
Harper later toured Specialty Hospital, a long-term acute care facility focusing on medically complex patients who need a longer stay in the hospital.
If you can make this correction, we would be most appreciative.
Harper serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee which, in part, oversees public health.
