Neshoba County is trying out an electronic auction format that allows a supplier to place multiple competing bids for a product or service during a specified time frame over a designated website.
The county will use the system to receive bids on three new garbage trucks for the sanitation department.
County Administrator Benjie Coats told the Neshoba Democrat that some other counties have had some success with the process and others haven't.
Coats says the electronic bidding format is allowed under state law.
Supervisors will still compile the specifications for the new trucks and bids will still be advertised in the local newspaper.
Coats says supervisors will have the right to reject any and all bids and rebid the trucks utilizing the conventional format if they so desire.
