Meridian's Ward 5 city council race features two candidates who have faced each other in the past.
Councilman Bobby Smith and former Ward 5 councilman, John C. Harris, both announced Monday they are running for the office.
Harris beat Smith for the seat eight years ago. But Smith regained the seat four years ago.
"When I looked at what we started and several of the projects we started, and several of the things we got started in, it's a love for the city," said Harris of his time as councilman. "And a love for the people. And that desire has never left me."
"Bring him on is all I can say," said Smith. "Bring them on. I'm ready for whoever announces. They can look at the record and tell who needs to run and who needs to win."
We know of one other person who has qualified for that office, Republican Randy Hammon.
