The Meridian Police Department hosted the first-ever small bore rifle competition for the State Games of Mississippi on Saturday.
Officials say there were dozens of participants over the age of 8 that took part in a competition using small bore, which is a 22-caliber, long rifle. There were four different rifle categories Saturday, broken down by age groups.
Organizers say it's still not too late to participate.
"If they wish to participate, they can come in the morning and register at 7:00," Cpl. Tom Wilson with the Meridian Police Department says. "And participate anytime during the day. And as I said, it's open to any and all people. Small bore. As long as they're age 8 or older."
The cost to participate is $30. The event being held at the Homeland Security Training Facility on Sandflat Road in Meridian.
