A tree grown in Newton County will grace the Mississippi Governor's Mansion this year.
First Lady Deborah Bryant picked out the tree Monday, along with her son, Patrick. The tree is being donated by Lazy Acres in Chunky.
The 12-foot Leyland cypress will be the tallest at the governor's mansion and be place in the front parlor.
Mrs. Bryant said it's important to her and the governor to have a Mississippi tree in their home.
"We will have tours every day and we'll have nine events," said Bryant. "And then we have the annual Christmas tour that's open to the public. And that will be on Dec. 6th, from 4 p.m. to 8:30."
The tree will be delivered to Jackson in plenty of time to be decorated for the Christmas season.
