Meridian, Miss. The new year is a time when many people are setting New Year's resolutions and one of the most common one's is getting into shape.
That's why local gyms say their numbers are swelling right now as people come in to begin the year on the right foot. At Anderson Fitness center in Meridian, experts say most of those people won't last though. Officials say most people will have dropped their New Year's resolutions within six to nine weeks, but they say that doesn't have to be the case.
"One of the main things I would encourage is get connected, get you a good network," fitness director Matt Espy says. "Make realistic goals and get with a professional that can help you know, this is a realistic goal for me, this is not a realistic goal for me. This is something I can gain, achieve and maintain and that usually gets you more ingrained into the lifestyle change. "
Anderson, like other fitness centers this time of year, is offering special deals for signing up at the beginning of the new year.
