Meridian Police arrested 22-year old Jacob Mathis, a former MPD officer, for allegedly committing assault while on the job.
Court documents say that Mathis struck an inmate in the face during a police transport. This apparently led to a probable cause hearing on Wednesday afternoon where the court issued an arrest warrant for Jacob Mathis.
Derrick L. Collins is the inmate making the allegations against Mathis. He says the alleged incident occurred on December 16th. Meridian Chief Administrative Officer Tim Miller says Mathis worked for the department for approximately five weeks before resigning sometime last month.
"Well, if allegations have been made, we'd have to turn it over to the city attorney and let him deal with that," Miller says.
Mathis has been released on a recognizance bond.
