High Speed Chase Ends in Meridian

Several law enforcement agencies were involved in an overnight high speed chase that ended in Meridian.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol says authorities began pursuing a semi truck in Laurel after it was running cars off of the road. It quickly turned into a chase that went all the way up Highway 11 and ended in the College Park shopping center in Meridian.

Authorities says the truck lost three tires during the chase which ended with the driver being taken into custody without incident by the Laurel Police Department.

I had to laugh when I read this story. Supposedly, the cops are chasing a truck (whose driver is allegedly running people off the road) by doing the same thing to the truck driver? Everyone knows how dangerous high speed chases are. Quite often innocent people are injured or even killed because of these unnecessary chases. Miami Vice was just a T.V. show, cops!! Start using your brains instead of your testosterone!!!

How come this wasn't covered by the Meridian Star? How come the coverage was so minimal on this site? Evidently, this endangered the lives of a lot of people---is there no concern for this? But---then again, I temporarily forgot---this is Meridian----

Those chases seem to happen a bit too often now. I just hope I don't happen to get in the way of those "reality" TV chase copycat cretins who don't care for the safety of innocent people.

Some cops will chase them "till the wheels come off." Short of a very violent felony suspect, chases are too dangerous for the amount of traffic on roads today. Cops are supposed to make conditions safer, not more dangerous.
