Muriel Holman was saluted Wednesday as Rush Hospital presented its annual service awards.
Holman has been a volunteer since 1969 and was a founding member of the organization.
Holman, who said she was a little surprised, says it's important to reach out to others.
"I enjoy it. I like to meet people," said Holman. "And it's a service that this organization is very proud of and I'm proud to be a member of it."
Holman has logged 7,000 hours as a hospital volunteer. That's the equivalent of more than 291 days.
