Houser Performs Before Sold Out Crowd

Meridian, Mississippi Country music superstar Randy Houser performed before a sold out crowd at the Temple Theater on Thursday night.

Houser headlined a concert aimed at celebrating the 116th birthday of the Father of Country Music, Jimmie Rodgers. Houser opened with his song "Boots On," before eventually playing his Billboard hit, "Runnin' Outta Moonlight."

Before the concert, Meridian Mayor Percy Bland and Senator Terry C. Burton each presented Houser with a proclamation, declaring Thursday "Randy Houser Day" in both Meridian and the state of Mississippi. The Mississippi native tells Newscenter 11 it is always great to have the opportunity to come home and perform.

"Well, it's awesome," Houser says. "I don't get to get home nearly as much as I used to. This is a great time to be in Meridian. A great excuse to be here, honoring Jimmie Rodgers here in Meridian, Mississippi. And you know, this is where I cut my teeth as a musician and lived here for a long time playing music. So, it feels great. "

Before the concert, Houser spent the day shooting segment for the CMT and GAC networks. Those broadcasts will air in the coming weeks.
