A local civil rights activist was sent to jail Monday over a legal issue involving the city of Meridian.
Randle Jennings was held in contempt of court in Lauderdale County Court. He has been in an ongoing dispute with the city over funds he was allocated for a children's program several years ago.
A judge says Jennings failed to produce documents the city wanted, showing where that money went.
Jennings is involved in the Meridian-Lauderdale County NAACP. Last week, he announced the organization had filed state ethics complaints against more than 50 local people for the treatment of youth in the justice system.
