More than a dozen young women from our area gathered in the Queen City on Saturday morning to take part in a well-known pageant.
18 contestants were on hand for the annual Jimmie Rodgers beauty pageant, held at the Northeast Convention Center. Organizers say the event is designed to honor the legacy of the late Jimmie Rodgers and they tell us there is more to the pageant than just impressing the judges.
"The young ladies get to learn about Jimmie Rodgers and the history of Jimmie Rodgers," according to Cecilia Hollis. "And the fact that he is the father of country music. So they learn all kinds of things. And they are out there in the public at all of our events and they're able to represent Jimmie Rodgers."
8 titles were handed out at the end of the pageant.
